The decision to transfer more than 500 teachers from Kolkata to the district

There is a trend of reading in English Medium Schools in Kolkata for a long time. But even after that Bengali Medium School was also running well in the city. But the civic character of that city is now rapidly changing.

The number of Bengalis in the city of Calcutta is rapidly decreasing. The crowd of Hindi-speaking people is increasing. And because of that, as the number of students in English medium schools in the city is gradually increasing, the number of students in Bengali medium schools in the city is decreasing. Schools that are weaker in attracting students are also taking initiatives of their own. Parents do not want their sons to study in Bengali medium schools. This problem is most prevalent in Kolkata schools. Among financially better-off Bengalis in Calcutta, the tendency to send them to government Bengali-medium schools has decreased. Rather, they are more inclined to send their children to English schools. There are still some students in highly reputed schools or schools in areas inhabited by relatively economically backward classes.

The increasing number of non-Bengalis in the city is coming from Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Delhi and Haryana. They want to teach their children in English medium school. In this situation, the state government has decided to transfer the teachers from the schools which have surplus teachers to the village schools which have fewer teachers. Accordingly, a list of transfers of more than 500 school teachers from Kolkata to neighboring districts has been prepared.

The DI office has already started sending it to the teachers. In this situation, if the number of students in government Bengali medium schools in Kolkata does not increase, the state government will have no choice but to close those schools in the coming days.
