The country's popular OTT platform Netflix may be brought under income tax

According to private media reports, the Modi government at the Center is considering taxing Netflix India's income from its streaming service. It is known that income tax will be collected from a foreign digital e-commerce company for the first time if this decision of the Income Tax Department becomes effective.

According to the Income Tax Agency, this American multinational company has a permanent office in the country. As a result, they will naturally come under income tax.

According to income tax sources, Netflix India's income of Rs. 55 crores for the financial year 2021-22 was mentioned in their draft order. Income tax authorities also claim that Netflix India has adequate infrastructure and staff to offer streaming services. That too is enough to come under income tax.
