Visva Bharati has been included in UNESCO's World Heritage List
Rabindranath Tagore's Shantiniketan, as the only living university in the world, is going to be included in the World Heritage List. It will be announced at the meeting of the World Heritage Committee in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia next September.
The Union Minister of Culture and Tourism gave such a message in a tweet yesterday. After receiving this news, the Chhatimatala was decorated in the evening by candlelight. Current and former students of Visva Bharati started expressing their joy through social media. Incidentally, the Archaeological Survey of India restores and maintains the heritage architecture and buildings of Visva Bharati. Rabindranath Tagore's Santiniketan residence and traditional architecture are still intact and in use today. They were the first to initiate this initiative. On October 25 last year, representatives of UNESCO's advisory International Council on Monuments and Sites visited Santiniketan. Then submitted the opinion and report to UNESCO. Recently ASI delegation visited Santiniketan again. On the occasion of Rabindranath's birth anniversary, ICOMOS recommended UNESCO list Santiniketan as a World Heritage Site. It is known that the list of heritage includes Santiniketan Ashram, Pathabhavan, Sangeetbhavan, Kalabhavan, Rabindrabhavan as well as Uttarayan premises and Sriniketan.
