Mamata's message for big industry on land vacated by NTPC
Central state-owned thermal power company NTPC has withdrawn from the proposed power project in Katwa. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee practically questioned the reasons for this in a technical education meeting at Navanna Assembly Hall on Thursday. According to him, about six hundred acres of that land is lying.
The state government is interested in building any kind of big industry there. Mamata said, "They asked us for land and gave it to us. After that maybe the project was withdrawn for something, not for us. Maybe according to some instructions.” The Chief Minister added, “There are six hundred acres of land. NTPC is now gone, not taken. That place belongs to us. We can do any major industry there. Katwa is a very popular place.''
The infrastructure for the project was almost complete. After that, NTPC lost interest. Knowing their attitude, the state government agreed to take back the land. However, the company has asked for the money invested in the project to be returned with interest. However, the progress of the administrative sources in this regard is not clear. Addressing the Chamber of Commerce and industry representatives present in the meeting, the Chief Minister again said that the government has introduced the leased land ownership system. Even if its price is taken at the market rate, a discount will be considered. In this case, some part of the land can be kept for industry and the rest can be used for other purposes.
