The Taliban shut down the only radio station run by women
Why music in the holy month of Ramazan! This time the wrath of the Taliban regime fell on the radio station. Afghanistan's only female-run radio station has been shut down by the Taliban for playing music during the holy month of Ramadan, which goes against Islamic norms.
The radio station named 'Sadai Banwan' was till now the only women run radio station in Afghanistan. It started its journey 10 years ago. 6 out of 8 employees of the station are women. Moezuddin Ahmadi, director of the Ministry of Information and Culture of Badakshan Province, said that Sadai Badwan was closed for allegedly playing music several times during the holy month of Ramadan, violating the rules of the Islamic Emirate. "But if the Islamic emirate accepts its policy, and ensures that it does not make such mistakes again, then we will allow it to reopen," he said.
However, the head of the radio station, Nazia Sarosh, denied all the allegations leveled against them. She claimed that they did not break any rules. She claims that the channel has been closed due to a conspiracy. Taliban said, we have broadcast music. But we didn't broadcast the song, she said.
Nazia said that around 11.40 am on Thursday, the representatives of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Directorate of Vice and Virtue came to the office of the organization. They said that the station will be closed. Nazia said that they spoke to the officials of the concerned ministry but to no avail.
After coming to power again in August 2021, the wrath of the Taliban regime fell on women's education and employment. The Taliban government in Afghanistan has already banned girls from studying beyond the sixth grade. Earlier in the nineties, the Taliban regime shut down all TV and radio channels. According to experts, the new Taliban regime is also moving in that direction.
