Vidyasagar Bridge will be closed next Saturday and Sunday night

Vidyasagar Bridge will be closed for all vehicular traffic on the night of April 29, Saturday, and Sunday, April 30 for cable testing and repair work. According to Lalbazar, the bridge will be closed from 12:00 pm on Saturday to 6:00 am the next day and on Sunday from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am the next day. However, to ensure that no untoward situation is created during the closure of the bridge, the police chiefs of Howrah, Barrackpore, and Diamond Harbor districts held a meeting with the Kolkata police chiefs on Tuesday.

Lalbazar informed that all the cargo lorries which are now traveling from Behala-Alipur via Vidyasagar Bridge will be sent via Nivedita Bridge via Hospital Road, Dharmatala, Chittaranjan Avenue, Shyambazar Panch Mathar Mor, Tala Bridge, BT Road on those two days. Lorries or trucks coming from Taliganj-Bhavanipur direction will be sent to Nivedita Bridge via Exide Junction, Dharmatala on the same route. Again, all the lorries and trucks going out of the city from the port area will be diverted from Hastings Junction and sent via Strand Road, King's Way, Dharmatala to Nivedita Bridge. A police officer said that small vehicles will not be allowed to climb the bridge. They will travel via Strand Road and Howrah Bridge.
