Malda district is the gateway to North Bengal. Covering 3456 square kilometers, this district is witness to history. Malda must be on the list of travel-loving Bengalis as a tourist destination. In the winter mood, two days can be spent on the weekend visiting the historical monuments, walking along the river.

What will you see?

Malda was the capital of Gaur Bengal. Ganga, Mahananda, Phulahar, Kalindri rivers flow through this district. This region was the border of ancient Gauda and Pandua. These two cities were the capitals of Bengal in ancient and medieval times. Many architectural monuments including Feroz Minar, Baro Duari, Chika Masjid stand as witnesses of history. Not only Gaur, the architecture of Adina Masjid will fascinate the travelers. Apart from this, the story of Sri Chaitanya's arrival in Gaur state and his relics will attract tourists. Jagjijivanpur also has a Buddhist monastery in Habibpur, Malda, modeled after Nalanda University. Apart from historical monuments, the district also has Adina Deer Forest. Deer and Nilgai are seen in this forest. Apart from this, Siberian birds can also be seen in this forest during the winter season.

There is no problem of transportation to visit places like Gour, Adina in Malda. From Toto to Auto, Taxi, all are available for hire. Taxi fare is rs.1000 to rs.1200 per day excluding fuel and mobile.

Malda district can be reached within five to six hours by taking any North Bengal-bound train from Sealdah, Kolkata and Howrah stations. There are also several private bus services on the road route, including the North Bengal State Transport Corporation.
