In 1933, the Anglo-Indian settlement McLuskeganj was created with the three villages of Lapra, Konka, and Heslong, Jharkhand. Anglo-Indian businessman Ernest Timothy McCluskie of Calcutta invited about 200,000 Anglo-Indians to come and live here, of which about 400 families responded to his call and settled here. McCluskie named the place after Mr. McCluskie. Since then, McCluskegunge has found its place in art, literature, and cinema due to its natural beauty. In the recent Konkana Sen Sharma-directed "A Death in the Ganj", McCluskeganj is in all its glory.

One can hire an auto for a day and see Sarvadharma Sthala, Church, Dega Degi River, and Damodar sunset. A very beautiful place to see here is Jagriti Vihar. It is actually an old orphanage and rural development center, which was established by foreigners. Today though it is apparently abandoned and known mainly as a tourist destination. The structures of abandoned offices and houses here are very beautiful. After crossing the gate and walking through a lot of forest, this place is quite nice to see.
