Indian festival day is recognized as a national holiday in America

The number of expatriate Indians in the United States is not at all small. However, the national recognition of Indian Hindu festivals! It may sound unbelievable but it actually happened. The United States has given the status of the Hindu festival Diwali as a National Holiday.

Announcing Diwali as a national holiday, Pennsylvania Senator Nikhil Saval wrote on Twitter, “The Senate unanimously voted to recognize Diwali as a public holiday! All the people of Pennsylvania will celebrate this festival as a festival of light and connection.” State Senator Greg Rothman and Senator Nikhil Saval introduced a bill to make Diwali a public holiday in Pennsylvania in February this year.

Incidentally, about 2 million South Asians live in Pennsylvania. Most of them celebrate the Diwali. Referring to the story, Rothman said, “Every year thousands of people in Pennsylvania celebrate Diwali. Diwali is therefore recognized as a national holiday of the state and will highlight the rich cultural diversity of our Commonwealth."
