CPM wants fair by-polls in Durgapur, commission

The CPM submitted a demand letter with the signatures of nearly 50,000 people to the State Election Commission for immediate by-polls in Durgapur. They surrounded the Durgapur municipality on April 18 demanding quick and transparent municipal elections.

On the same day, it was announced that the state election commission in Calcutta would demand the signatures of the people of the city. Similarly, on Monday, the CPM delegation including the party's state secretariat member Palash Das, West Burdwan district secretariat member Pankaj Roy Sarkar, former MLA Viprendu Chakraborty, and district leaders met the state election commissioner Saurabh Das and demanded early polls.

Palash came out to the commission and said, "Durgapur's board has expired in the month of August-September 2022. Since then, the Board of Trustees has been in place. A lot of work is getting stuck as a result. Residents of the city have to suffer even to get resident certificates. We have demanded an early election by ending this situation.'' Trinamool forces could not enter the polling station. Many Trinamool members could not enter the polling station. His statement, "Jitendra Tiwari was the district president of Trinamool during that 2017 elections, now he is in BJP.

But the attitude of the ruling party has not changed. We have also raised the demand to stop the looting of votes.'' Votes for him would not be kept off! People from my neighborhood will be councilors, out of this democratic spirit, the bureaucratic rule is being imposed on the grassroots.
