BBC chairman resigned

British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) chairman Richard Sharp resigned on Friday citing moral reasons. A recent investigative report by a private watchdog claimed former prime minister Boris Johnson broke the rules in hiring Sharpe. However, the inquiry report said, however, that this appointment cannot be called illegal.

But Sharp said in his resignation letter that he had decided to step down with the BBC's reputation in mind. According to the privacy watchdog, Johnson's acquaintance with Sharpe is old. Sharp had some role in getting Johnson a loan. The possibility that Sharpe may have a vested interest in the choice of BBC chairman after 2021 cannot be ruled out. However, according to the investigation report, there is no deficiency in Sharpe's qualifications for the post. There is no room to call his appointment illegal. However, Sharp resigned on Friday, saying BBC authorities had asked him to continue working until the end of June. His successor will be appointed within him. Sharp accepted the authority's request.
