North Bengal will be a 'Union Territory', confirms Anant Maharaj

Rajvanshi leader Ananth Maharaj is sure that North Bengal is going to be a union territory. Attending a religious ceremony in Nepal on Sunday, he claimed that all plans to declare North Bengal as a separate Union Territory have been finalised. He is hopeful that if North Bengal becomes a union territory, this area will see unprecedented development.

Ananth Maharaj said, "The decision that North Bengal will be a union territory is ripe. Only the announcement remains. This area is very sensitive. It will be good if Union Territory is declared." The Rajvanshi leader has long been adamant about declaring North Bengal as a separate Union Territory. Since the last assembly elections, there have been various speculations about the declaration of a separate administrative area centered on North Bengal. BJP MLA from the hills, Bishnu Prasad Sharma, when Gorkhaland was not declared, when his party's Blaming the MP, a section of BJP leaders from Duars has in turn supported Anant Maharaj, raising the question of underdevelopment.

But in this way, no one has publicly claimed that the decision of the union territory is final. Even today, BJP's Siliguri district president and Matigara-Naxalbari MLA Anandamoy Barman said, "What Anant Maharaj said is his personal opinion. I don't have any such news. It is entirely up to the central government whether an area is declared a union territory or not."

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has made it clear several times that under no circumstances will partition of Bengal be allowed. In that tone, Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP Shantanu Sen said, "Anant Maharaj has made such comments before to be in the news headlines. There is also provocation by the opposition parties. Mamata Banerjee said that development will be tied from mountains to seas. We will not allow Bengal to be divided."
