Late artist Vivan Sundaram
Artist Vivaan Sundaram passed away. He breathed his last at around 9.20am on Wednesday. Age was 79. Vivaan was at his home in Delhi for the last time. Vivan was born in Shimla in 1943.
Father Kalyan Sundaram was the first Law Secretary of independent India. The artist started his studies at Doon School. Later he went to study art from Baroda University. After that he went to Billet.
In 1966, he started studying the history of cinema in the city of London. After returning to the country in 1971, he got involved in various political activities. During the emergency, he regularly joined hands with various art organizations for political work.
He came in contact with left-wing artists. His installation work on the 46 riots in Kolkata was shown at the Victoria Memorial. The exhibition is still remembered as the 'History Project'. In 1976, 'Kasauli Art Centre' was created by him. He was a long time member of the 'Safdar Hashmi Memorial Trust' (Sahmat) created in memory of playwright Safdar Hashmi.
Since 1989, Vivan has organized regular installation exhibitions, road shows there. It is known that the artist was infected with corona three months ago. Since then he was suffering from various ailments.
