Bilawal's reference to Kashmir as 'occupied', countered by Jaishankar
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari targets New Delhi on the Kashmir issue on Indian soil. Not only that, but the Pakistani foreign minister also referred to the land as 'Occupied Kashmir'. He also brought up the issue of abolishing the special status of Kashmir.
On this day, Bilawal attended the foreign minister-level meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization or SCO in Goa. After the meeting, he made significant comments about India-Pak relations. According to Bilawal, "India had the responsibility to create a favorable environment for talks. But New Delhi has spoiled that process by removing the special status of occupied Kashmir."
However, Bilawal made it clear that Islamabad is interested in normalizing India-Pak relations. "On August 5, 2019, New Delhi took unilateral and illegal action on Kashmir, which is in violation of international law, UN resolutions, and bilateral agreements." Pak Foreign Minister told the media after the meeting. Besides, Bilawal also explained Pakistan's 'policy position' on Kashmir. On this day, he said, "In 2019, the status quo of Kashmir was unilaterally revoked. The responsibility for this rests with India." He also mentioned that normalization of diplomatic relations with New Delhi is not possible in this situation.
