India in the race for NATO membership! What the US ambassador said
Pledge to remain committed to military cooperation in the international arena. Strong countries like America, Britain, France, Germany are included in it (NATO Alliance). Is it possible for India to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization! America's NATO Ambassador Julian Smith answered that question openly.
He said that NATO is interested in expanding relations with India. However, he said that there is no plan for the expansion of the international alliance (NATO Membership).
Many countries appeared at NATO's door with proposals for political cooperation at various levels. Sometimes countries show more interest. The equation depends on the country.
A message of cooperation has already been given to India. India should think about that."Julian has made no bones about the possibility of India's membership in NATO. In his words, "We have not thought about the membership of any country. So far the issue has been limited to Europe and the Atlantic military alliance. At the moment, the door is open to NATO. However, there are currently no plans to expand this alliance into a global military alliance."
There is a meeting of foreign ministers of different countries at the headquarters of NATO in Brussels from 4 to 5 April. There is a possibility of Finland's membership. But there are no plans to invite India there right now, Julian said.
He said that it is necessary to know first how much India is interested in joining NATO at the overall level. As long as it is not possible, India is not likely to participate in the NATO meeting, he said.
Currently, the number of NATO member countries is 31. That list includes America, Britain, France, Germany, Canada, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Albania, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Luxembourg, Slovakia,Countries like Spain, Turkey, Romania, North Macedonia, Lithuania, Iceland. Of these, what is meant by a literal military, Iceland does not have.
In addition, NATO has cooperative relations with countries like Australia, New Zealand, Republic of Korea and Japan. They have good relations with NATO for the past few years. The four countries also attended the NATO conference in Madrid last year. However, since the Russia-Ukraine war last year, India has been making continuous efforts to establish peace. Julian also appreciated India's efforts.
