The director of DRDO arrested for information smuggling to Pakistan

Defense Research Organization (DRDO) Director Pradeep Kurulkar has been arrested on charges of providing information to Pakistan. He was reportedly arrested by the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) from Pune. ATS's initial suspicion is that this DRDO official may have stepped into the honeytrap and passed on some sensitive information about India to Pakistan. ATS has also reportedly filed a separate case against him in Mumbai. Pune police are investigating the matter.

According to Pune Police sources, ATS suspects that DRDO Director Pradeep Kurulkar has provided information on several sensitive matters to Pakistani intelligence officers. It is known that Pradeep Kurulkar's retirement was six months away. Before that, Kurulkar fell into the trap of Pakistan's honeytrap. According to sources, the DRDO director was in close contact with a woman associated with Pakistan's intelligence agencies through mobile phones for the past six months.

Maharashtra ATS has filed a case under the Indian Official Secrets Act 1923-Sections 3 (1/C), 5 (1/A), 5 (1/C), 5 (1/D). ATS has also already registered a case at Kalachowki. Pradeep Kurulkar worked as a scientist in DRDO for a long time. ATS officer Mahesh Patil said the detailed investigation of the crime is being done by the state police as well as the Anti-Terrorist Squad, Pune unit.

Earlier in 2018, a man was arrested for allegedly providing information to Pakistan. The ATS official said the scientist was allegedly in regular contact with an agent of the 'Pakistan Intelligence Operative' mainly through WhatsApp and video calls. The ATS issued a statement saying that the scientist, abusing his position, smuggled several secret information of officials in his possession to certain individuals in Pakistan. Knowing that it could be quite harmful to the country's security, he informed the enemy country in detail.
