Sanjeev Banerjee, Eastern Regional Director of the Alipore Meteorological Department, said that there is no chance of rain in South Bengal including Kolkata for the next five days. Rather, there are indications of a slight rise in temperature. The temperature is likely to rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius every day. In that case, the temperature in the city of Kolkata may be around 37 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. Some districts of South Bengal including Bankura, Purulia may see a slight rise in temperature.
Due to low pressure created in the Bay of Bengal, the calamity started from Friday. Scattered rains lashed large areas of South Bengal, including the city of Kolkata, on Saturday as well. The sudden drop in temperature at the end of Chaitrya due to rain and strong winds. However, from Monday, the temperature has started to rise again in South Bengal. According to weather office sources, the day and night temperatures may increase by 4 to 6 degrees in the next 24 hours.
