Visva Bharati's 'strict action' against Amartya Sen, notice issued

University authorities to take 'stern action' against Amartya Sen for not attending Visva Bharati hearing.'Steps' will be taken as per the Occupiers' Eviction Act, 1971 by 12 noon on the 19th. Amartya Sen's lawyer has already been notified by the registrar of Visva Bharati. A notice was sent by the registrar of Visva Bharati to Amartya's lawyer Gorachand Chakraborty.

In the notice issued on Thursday, Visva Bharati authorities said that the authorities are going to take a strict decision on April 19 as per the 1971 eviction act. On March 29, Amartya Sen was summoned by the Visva Bharati authorities for a land hearing. But then he asked for time. But according to the law no more than one week can be given. So a 'tough decision' will be taken on April 19. According to the notice, Amartya's lawyer can be present on the 19th or if he has anything to say through email, he can say it. Incidentally, a dispute started between Amartya Sen and Visva Bharati over the ownership of land in the 13th century. The Nobel laureate claims that this land was bought by his father. But Visva Bharati is not a pot to leave.

Amartya Sen is currently abroad. So he said he can't come now. Therefore, his lawyer informed Visva Bharati that he does not have the documents related to the land. After that, 4 months time was also requested from the university authorities by sending a letter. But Visva Bharati authorities are unwilling to give it. In the meantime, the Tulkalam situation has come to light as the 'strict action' notice has come to light.
