Modi Govt is strict, Delhi Police FIR on attack on Indian High Commission in London
The government of Narendra Modi has taken stricter action in connection with the attack on the Indian High Commission in London. Delhi Police has filed an FIR regarding the incident in London.
As a result, the police of this country will be able to arrest the accused in the attack as soon as they set foot on Indian soil.
Filing of FIRs in the country on foreign incidents is rare if not unprecedented. It is expected that similar steps will be followed in the case of the attack on the Indian Embassy in San Francisco. A group of Khalistan supporters attacked the Indian embassy in London last Friday. A group of people known as Amritpal Singh's followers tried to pull down the Indian national flag and raise the Khalistani flag at the High Commission office.
India strongly protested to the British government about the security of the High Commission in this incident. The British ambassador in Delhi was summoned and informed of the outrage. Instead of stopping here, India made a symbolic protest by withdrawing extra security in front of the British High Commission in Delhi. Due to New Delhi's decision, extra security has been imposed in front of the Indian Embassy in London.
A major reason for India's displeasure was the lack of responsiveness of the London police during the attack. Desecration of the national flag by breaking the security cordon in that populated area and entering the High Commission office is not possible without the inaction of the police.
According to official sources, the CCTV footage of the attack has been handed over to the British police by the Indian Embassy in London. Those accused of attacks on foreign embassies are not allowed to travel abroad. As a result, those Sikhs living in Britain have been blocked from getting permission to come to India. Still, if they somehow set foot in this country, the Indian police can arrest them. The Delhi Police FIR kept that legal avenue open. According to sources in the Ministry of External Affairs, they gave the TV footage of the incident in London to the Delhi Police and instructed them to file a case.
