The minimum fare on a private bus is 7 taka, a minibus is 8 taka, government proposal

The state government has made it clear on Friday that the bus fare cannot be increased. According to the list of 2018, the minimum fare for private buses is 7 Taka and for minibus is 8 Taka.

Warning to bus owners, if the fare is not increased within three weeks, the bus will be removed from the road. Transport Minister Snehashis Chakraborty held a meeting with various organizations of private bus minibus owners on Friday. The owners demanded an increase in the bus fare in the meeting. At the same time, they also demanded an end to police brutality. According to sources, the Minister of Transport has clarified that the rent will be charged according to the 2018 list.

Due to the lockdown in the city during the Corona phase in 2020, bus services were stopped for several months. After the lockdown, when the bus service starts, the owners charge a minimum fare of Tk 10 according to their own decision. The government did not take any action then. Apart from Tk 10 for the first stage, the owners unilaterally started the fares in the later stages as per their wish. The bus workers and passengers often quarreled about it. It is said by the government, if the passengers take the extra fare, they should complain to the local police station or Lalbazar along with the ticket. The bus license will be canceled if necessary. There was a lot of laughter among the passengers about this unrealistic proposal of the government.

The bus fare that has increased since Corona is still being charged. Now if the government sets the minimum rent at 7 and 8 takas, there is doubt whether the owners will accept it or not. The state of private-public transport business is already very bad. Among them, the situation has worsened during the Corona phase. The future private bus owner has wrapped up the business. Now, even though private buses are seen throughout the day, they are not seen on the city streets even in the evening. Private buses ply less on public holidays.
