Mamata is connecting cooking gas to 71 thousand Anganwadi centers
The days of cooking by burning charcoal or kerosene stoves in Anganwadi centers across the state are coming to an end. On the initiative of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, it has been decided to provide LPG connection to more than 71 thousand Anganwadi centers in the state. For this, a total of 33 crore 32 lakh 19 thousand taka has been allocated by the State Department of Women, Children and Social Welfare. Not only this, the money has also been directed to be delivered to the concerned Anganwadi centers by March 31.
Informed circles consider this initiative very positive for the health and safety of children and pregnant women. Pollution spreads when cooking on wood or kerosene stoves. The mixture of smoke, kerosene burning smell etc. creates a situation which is harmful to the health of children and pregnant women. Now Mamata's decision will benefit millions of children and mothers of Bengal. According to the decision, provision of gas connection will be made for the Anganwadi centers which have their own houses for the time being. Now the department is releasing money for two cylinders. There is no word yet on other costs. The rest of the infrastructure is expected to be built after the gas connection is completed. There are many Anganwadi Centers in villages in Bengal, which are run in rented houses, clubhouses etc. Sometimes the concerned club authority or house owner gets annoyed because cooking is done on charcoal. There have also been incidents of obstruction. Besides, in this case there is a health risk for the cooks.
School mid-day meals have been cooked on LPG for a long time. Then the question began to arise as to why the Anganwadi center would not have that arrangement. Finally, the system is going to be introduced in the Anganwadi centers on the initiative of the Chief Minister.
