The maximum temperature in South Bengal, including Kolkata, reached 42 degrees Celsius. In record heat, the electricity department has to face difficulties to meet the electricity demand of the customers.
Many times transformers get burnt out due to overloading, mechanical disturbances also disrupt power supply for some time.
In this situation, the West Bengal Electricity Department took several steps to maintain 24 hours electricity supply even in the villages. It is reported that electricity supply to some consumers was disrupted for a short time due to transformer burnout and mechanical disturbances due to overloading in Jodhpur Park, Haridebpur, Belgharia and Dakshineshwar yesterday i.e. Monday.
CESC is responsible for power supply in these areas. On April 18, Hon'ble Minister of Electricity Shri Arup Biswas and Secretary of Electricity Department Shri Shantanu Basu held a meeting with CESC officials at the Electricity Development Building. In that meeting, Hon'ble Minister Shri Arup Biswas gave several instructions to the CESC authorities to keep the electricity supply system intact.
These include provision of adequate transformers, provision of high capacity DG sets and provision of 24x7 electricians everywhere. Not only South Bengal, heat wave is going on all over the state at the beginning of Baisakh.
In this situation, the 24x7 control room of WBSEDCL has been started at Vidyut Bhavan from Monday 17th April to solve any problem related to electricity supply all over Bengal.
