Special arrangement of railways on Kaushiki amavasya and importance of this day

Today is Kaushiki Amavasya. Many people call this new moon of 'Bhadra' Bengali month Kaushiki, many others call it  Alokamavasya. Kaushiki Amavasya has started at 4:32 AM on some calendars and 5:31 AM on other calendars. Will be Friday morning till 6:30. Kaushiki Amavasya has special significance in both Hindu and Buddhist practices. According to Tantramat, this night is called 'Tara night'. It is a tradition among saints that the gates of heaven and hell are momentarily opened on this night or at a particular moment. If the Sadhaka wants, he can take advantage of that time to achieve either of the two Sadhanas - Daiva or Asurik.

According to the Puranas, the giants Shumbha and Nishumbha achieved victory by appeasing Brahma through hard sadhana. They were given a boon that no man could kill.

Only ayoni-sambhuta or a woman who has not been born from the mother's womb can slaughter. Meanwhile, Goddess Sati passed away at Daksha's Yagya place. So when Kalika was born, the complexion of the goddess was as black as a cloud. Goddess got angry as Mahadev called Goddess Kalika for killing Shumbha-Nishumbha. Manas began severe austerities on the banks of Sarovar. In that penance, the colour of the goddess's skin changes like a full moon. And, from his black cells was born the beautiful Krishnavarna Devi. Taken from Kosha, the name of the goddess is Kaushiki or Kaushiki.

This goddess killed Shumbha-Nishumbha on the Ambasya tithi of Vadramas. So this Amavasya tithi is called Kaushiki Amavasya.

It is said that Tantra monk Bamacharan Chattopadhyay aka Bamakshyapa Devi achieved success in his pursuit of Tara during the Kaushiki Amavasya. He performed Sadhana in the White Shimultala of Tarapeeth Crematorium. Some devotees claim Sati's third eye or Nayantara fell on this Peeth. Hence its name Tarapeeth.

However, according to most opinions, the Tarapeeth is a Siddhapeeth, not a Satipeeth. The saints believe that if one practices Sadhana here in Kaushiki Amavasya, the saint gains knowledge, joy and fulfilment.

Eastern Railway Authority has arranged several special trains between Howrah and Rampurhat on the occasion of Kaushiki Amavasya. This special train has been arranged for three days. Passengers will get the benefit from Thursday. These special trains, which are running till Saturday, will not have many stops. Sheoraphuli will stop after Howrah.
