The good news about the tram! Big order of Calcutta High Court

A public interest litigation was filed in the Calcutta High Court challenging the tram line being covered with pitch. A public interest litigation was filed against an NGO called People United for Better Living in Calcutta. They said that attempts are being made to arbitrarily stop the tram system in Kolkata.

A division bench led by the High Court's Chief Justice said that covering tram lines with pitch should be stopped immediately. Interim instructions have been given. What is the government's policy on trams should be told in the court. A report has been directed to be submitted. The state should also submit a report on the measures taken by the government to preserve this transport.

Advocate Siddharth Mitra, on behalf of the petitioner, said that the court has directed that the work of pitch covering on the tram line should be stopped immediately. The court has also informed that the government should bring control from selling or removing trams. The petitioner said that the initiative was taken to hand over the tram system without any survey. This is being done without looking at the impact on the state's residents and environment.

Meanwhile, various bad names are given around the tram. It moves slowly and takes up a lot of space in the city. But the company claims, no reasonable basis is being presented for such a claim. Calcutta Tram Users Association filed an RTI. It was observed that there was no study anywhere on traffic speed with trams and traffic speed without trams.
