Go First Airlines goes bankrupt, passengers are stranded
More than 50 percent of Wadia Group's low-cost carrier Go-First's aircraft have been grounded due to a lack of cash. They applied bankruptcy law to save the company. Canceled flights today and tomorrow.
The airline said on Tuesday afternoon that more than half of its flights on Wednesday and Thursday had been canceled as the cash crunch reached critical levels. In the night news came, many private airports in different cities like Mumbai, and Ahmedabad are not allowing Go-First planes to land. Because of fear, the organization will not be able to meet the money for that.
According to sources, a flight departing from Jammu could not land in Mumbai and was forced to land in Surat. The passengers practically fell into the shallow water.
Many stumble upon a Tuesday morning web check-in for a Wednesday flight. Many others are in trouble. Doubts are also raised about getting refunds for canceled flight tickets. According to experts, many passengers lost their ticket money when Kingfisher and Jet took off. Experts say that it is doubtful whether Go-First will be able to operate regular flights in such a situation. Complaints of passengers, if the flight is canceled in this way, who will compensate for the suffering?
Kaushik Khona, the owner of 17-year-old Go-First, said that the plane had to be grounded due to a lack of money. Forced to save the company from this situation, the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has been approached. He told the news agency that they use engines of Pratt & Whitney company in the aircraft. It cannot be brought due to lack of money. So 28 aircraft have to be deployed. Regular maintenance of the engine is also not possible. Parts do not match due to a lack of capital. It is also not possible to meet financial obligations.
The decision puts the future of Go-First's nearly 5,000 workers in question. Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, however, said the incident was unfortunate. But the Center is helping the organization in every way.
