Don't color the words of the court, it will spread confusion in people's minds, Chief Justice advises journalists

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud warned journalists about court news. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court expressed concern over the reporting of certain parts of any judgment and said that it should not be done in the news about the comments of judges or judges in the court.

According to the Chief Justice, court news in the country is now reaching people with importance. Enthusiasm for court news is also increasing among the common people. But, according to Chief Justice Chandrachud, court reporters have become the storytellers of the judicial system. Keeping complex aspects of the law in the dark and making up stories like their own. Therefore, in or out of the courtroom, the judges or justices comment fragments are reported. Explaining his statement, the Chief Justice said, such news will spread confusion among the general public about the statement of the court. Because, the judgment or comment of the court is very complex and has subtle significance, from there, if you give the part you like as news, the wrong message will be sent to people's minds regarding the judgment. What the judge wanted to say, people will understand something different.

Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism 2023 award ceremony was addressed by the Chief Justice of the country on Wednesday. He was speaking emphasizing the importance of journalism in today's society. The chief justice said this while talking about the importance of the legal system and journalism.

In his words, if journalists try to simplify complex issues, they must be careful not to suppress reality or truth in any way. He also said that everyone believes that the pen is mightier than the sword. Not only that, in this profession you have to listen to people's jokes. Many people don't like it. Journalists consistently attempt to dilute complex material. Care should be taken that the real truth is not sacrificed while walking on the path of simplification. A journalist's main job is to clean up the mess.

The Chief Justice also mentioned about fake news in the speech. He said, fake news can lead to communal riots. Which is harmful to democracy. According to him, the dignity of democracy will be compromised if journalists are prevented from asking tough questions and assuming that what is going on in society is fine.
