Controversy: Nayanthara's 'Annapoorani' Pulled from Netflix, FIR Filed
The Nayanthara-starrer Tamil film 'Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food' faced removal from Netflix following complaints about alleged religious insensitivity. The controversy centered around claims that the movie, which premiered on December 29, contained controversial remarks about Lord Ram and supposedly promoted love jihad. Protests and police complaints ensued, leading to an FIR against Nayanthara and others involved, registered in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur. In response, the film's co-producers, Zee Studios, issued an apology and pledged to edit the contentious scenes before re-releasing the film.
The Mumbai Police also received a complaint against the film, citing religious sentiments and alleging promotion of love jihad. The FIR, registered under IPC sections 153A and 34, accused the movie of insulting Sanatan Dharma and endorsing love jihad. The controversy underscores the ongoing challenges surrounding artistic expression and sensitivity to religious sentiments in the entertainment industry.Lai Ching-tae Elected as Taiwan's President, Fueling Speculation of Heightened Tensions with China
