Congress will form a strong anti-unity committee

At Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's residence last night, several leaders of opposition parties asked the Congress to take initiative with an opposition alliance as the main party. Following the 'suggestion' of regional parties, the Congress leadership decided to form a special committee this time to build opposition unity. Composed of experienced Congress leaders, the task of this committee will be to ensure unity and coordination among the opposition parties.

According to sources, the responsibility of different regional teams will be in the hands of individual members of that committee. The concerned Congress leader will be in regular contact with the top leadership of the opposition BJP in his area of responsibility. Kharge, as the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, regularly meets with the parliamentary leaders of other opposition parties during the parliamentary session. When the session of the Parliament is over, this time a plan will be taken to call a meeting of the top leaders of the main party. At the meeting of opposition parties yesterday, Rahul Gandhi requested all the leaders not to speak against each other. The conflict between Congress and Shiv Sena due to the Savarkar controversy has also been resolved today. According to the Congress leadership, now the opposition is a platform of 19 parties. In the words of Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, 'Different opposition parties the proposal for a face-to-face meeting between the leaders came in discussions at Kharg's residence. Accordingly, it has been decided that the opposition leaders will sit soon.'

Congress plans to hit the streets in April after the Parliament session ends, alleging the Adani case and BJP's politics of revenge. The party will organize a conference titled 'Jai Bharat Mahasatyagraha' in Delhi in the second week of the same month. Congress is trying to bring all the leaders of opposition parties there.

Trinamool leader Derek O'Brien in the Rajya Sabha about the Congress's readiness for opposition unity said, 'Opposition unity is a continuous process. Everything can't be done in one jump, it has to be done step by step.' He explained, 'The face of anti-alignment is not what it was five days ago, today. How it will be after five days can't be said before.' Trinamool parliamentarians will stage a sit-in under Ambedkar's statue in Parliament tomorrow morning. The Trinamool says its inaugural phase will be held in Delhi before leader Mamata Banerjee begins two consecutive days of anti-Centre dharna in Kolkata at noon. In Derek's words, 'I will deal with democracy, parliament, constitution and federal structure (central financial deprivation towards Bengal).'

According to political camps, the opposition parties at two levels are now negotiating among themselves. First, Congress is reaching out to all opposition parties. They will try to strengthen this process in the coming days. Second, the non-Congress-anti BJP factions are in constant contact with each other. The opposition camp is giving importance to the hearing of the case filed by the opposition parties in the Supreme Court on 5th.
