Bollywood Actress Anjali Patil Falls Victim to Cyber Fraud, Loses Rs 5.79 Lakh

In a distressing incident, acclaimed Bollywood actress Anjali Patil has fallen victim to an elaborate cyber scam, losing a significant sum of Rs 5.79 lakh. The fraudster, masquerading as a Mumbai Police officer named Banerjee, initially contacted Anjali claiming that drugs were discovered in a parcel addressed to her bound for Taiwan. Exploiting the situation, the imposter fabricated a link between her Aadhaar card and a money laundering case, demanding a processing fee of Rs 96,525 for verification.

Under duress and fearing defamation, Anjali complied with the fraudulent demands, depositing the requested amount into a Punjab National Bank account. Subsequently, the cyber impersonator, still posing as Officer Banerjee, coerced the actress into transferring an additional Rs 4,83,291 to allegedly close the fabricated case. It was only after sharing the incident with her landlord that Anjali realized the deception, prompting her to report the cyber fraud to DN Nagar Police, who have initiated an investigation into this distressing episode. This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the increasing sophistication of cyber scams targeting individuals across various walks of life.
