Infosys tweeted that the investment in the first phase is around 200 crores

A year and a half ago, Infosys held the ground-breaking ceremony of the proposed IT project at Rajarhat. The IT company announced the arrival in Kolkata 'soon' in a tweet on Wednesday. They said, “Calcutta, we are coming. We look forward to welcoming you to our office soon. Keep an eye on the rest and job opportunities.” According to sources, the investment in the first phase may be around Tk 200 crore.

While Infosys had a Special Financial Zone (SEZ) on the list of industrialization during the Left, the project stalled due to various complications. The organization was keen to get the title. The then opposition Trinamool Congress raised objections. Later, Mamata Banerjee's government initiated the project. The then IT Minister Partha Chatterjee also visited the home of NR Narayanamurthy, one of the founders of Infosys. Ten years ago, the organization got 50 acres of land in Rajarhat (Action Area-3), but the work did not start at the beginning. A few years ago, the state relaxed the conditions for the use of that land. While 51% of the land is earmarked for IT and services, the rest is earmarked for planned uses by the organization.

In October 2021, Parthababu announced the ground breaking of the project. He also indicated the completion of the first phase in 22 months and the commissioning of the proposed software development center with 2000 employees. Sources claim that most of the buildings in the project have been completed. Infosys has also opened a temporary office in Sector Five.
