If you are late, the fine will increase Finance Minister Nirmal's message on PAN-Aadhaar linkage

The penalty decision for not linking PAN and Aadhaar card came into effect last year. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman cleared Narendra Modi government's move at the end of the second phase of the budget session of Parliament.

In a press conference on Thursday, the Union Finance Minister said, "As much time as possible has been given to the government." Those who have not linked PAN and Aadhaar card yet, do it quickly. The amount of penalty will also increase with time. Incidentally, even though the 'extended period' for linking PAN and Aadhaar cards with penalty ended on March 31 this year, the Center has decided to extend it again.

The deadline for common PAN and Aadhaar linking ended on March 31, 2022. At that time, the Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) issued a notification saying that if a taxpayer does not complete the work, he will have to pay penalty from April 1, 2022. The directive said that if it is done within three months from April 1 (until June 30, 2022), a one-time penalty of Rs. 500 will be charged. And thereafter (July 1, 2022 and thereafter) the fine will be Rs.1000.
