29th Kolkata International Film Festival Kicks Off Without Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan

The much-anticipated 29th Kolkata International Film Festival is set to commence today, running until December 12. However, notable absentees from this year's event include Bollywood icons Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Jaya Bachchan.

According to reliable sources, Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Shatrughan Sinha, and Saurabh Gangopadhyay are among the distinguished guests who will grace the occasion. Festival Chairman Raj Chakraborty confirmed in an interview that despite the absence of these Bollywood stalwarts, the event will proceed seamlessly.

This year's festival places a spotlight on Spain and Australia as the focus countries. Prasenjit Chatterjee assumes the role of the Chairman of the International Film Festival's reception committee, adding a touch of regional flavour to the proceedings.

A noteworthy inclusion in the competitive category is the Bengali Panorama, offering a substantial prize of Tk 7.5 lakh. This marks the first time that Bengali Panorama has been featured in the competitive lineup, enhancing the regional representation at the festival.

Renowned film personalities such as Sudheer Mishra, Anurag Bose, Manoj Vajpayee, and Mani Ratnam are expected to grace the festival with their presence, adding to the star-studded lineup.

In his statement, Chairman Raj Chakraborty emphasized the global appeal of the festival, underscoring the diverse range of high-quality films from both national and international filmmakers that will be showcased throughout the week.

Despite the absence of some Bollywood heavyweights, the 29th Kolkata International Film Festival is anticipated to draw a significant audience, and organizers are optimistic that this edition will be remembered for its cinematic excellence and cultural richness. Stay tuned for more updates as the festivities unfold over the coming days.
